Our live Mealworms at Fluker Farms are the highest quality that your pets will ever have the pleasure of tasting!

It's bird watching season and cardinals, blue birds, and many others love feeding on live mealworms. Yellow mealworms, Tenebrio molitor, are believed to have originated in the mountainous regions of Iran and Northern India and migrated into Europe during biblical times. Since then mealworms were introduced into the United States around the time of the Revolutionary War. As early as the 1800's, mealworms were already being raised as a food for pets, especially birds. Today Fluker Cricket Farm is a premiere supplier of the best mealworms available. Cheap online prices with shipping Monday - Thursday including our Live Delivery Guarantee. Buy Mealworms from Fluker Farms online today and get them shipped directly to your door!

Mealworms are shipped loose in either a box or mailing tube depending on quantity ordered. You will need to transfer them into a plastic container with enough bedding to cover the worms. Mealworm Care

Q.  What birds eat mealworms?
A. Some people think that if you don't have bluebirds, there's no reason to feed mealworms. But even if you don't have the right habitat for bluebirds, many other birds will enjoy them, including some of our most beloved feeder birds. We've had chickadees nuthatches, and titmice eat mealworms from the feeders at our house. Other birds that eat mealworms regularly include wrens, orioles, woodpeckers, and some warblers, like the Pine Warbler.

Q.  How do I serve mealworms to the birds?
A. Put mealworms in a feeder visible and accessible to the birds. For birds that are not routinely at your feeder (orioles, bluebirds, robins), put the feeder near where you have seen them feeding or perching. Common feeder birds will eat mealworms right at their regular feeding station. Because mealworms can crawl, it is best to place them in a feeder where they cannot crawl out: a cup-type feeder with smooth sides that are more than 1" high. A tray or platform feeder can also be used, but make sure it has sides so the mealworms don't crawl out.

Q.  Do roasted or dried mealworms work as well as live mealworms?
A. Frankly, no. I won't say that birds will never eat dead, dried-out mealworms, but I can say that fresh, live mealworms will ALWAYS be preferred over dried or roasted or canned mealworms.

Q.  What fun behavior can I look for if I feed mealworms to the birds?
A. Look for parent birds taking a mouthful of mealworms back to the nest or nest box to feed to their nestlings. After the young leave the nest, watch for parent birds feeding mealworms to their fledglings, as they cry and wing quiver in a tree. Watch juvenile birds approach a mealworm feeder on their own, helping themselves to the food for the first few times in their life! Bluebirds will become accustomed to you feeding mealworms and will wait nearby as you fill the feeder, and swoop in as soon as you've left.

Q.  How do you keep mealworms?
A. Our mealworms are shipped in regular boxes and therefore need to be transferred to a plastic container with small holes. Any kind of bran or meal should be added to the plastic container for bedding and food. They can be kept for weeks at 40 - 50 degrees F in the refrigerator. Lower temperatures can kill them. They will be slow moving when they are in the fridge. About every two weeks or so, pull the container out of the fridge, add a few small chunks of carrot or potato, which they will consume as a source of moisture. At the end of the day, remove any remaining carrot or potato, replace the cover, and put them back in the fridge. When buying mealworms, make it your last stop on the way home. Leaving mealworms in a warm or hot car for hours can kill them. You can get a lot of enjoyment from watching birds eat mealworms, and the mealworms are quite a treat for the birds!

SHIPPING INFORMATION:

When will my order ship?
We ship orders Monday-Friday depending on the items ordered and the shipping method selected at checkout. We do not ship on Saturday or Sunday.

Which shipping method should I choose? We offer a wide variety of options for shipping your live insects. Using the chart above as reference, our customers can choose which shipping service will work best for them. It is important to take into account that transit times vary greatly between the different options. USPS First Class Mail can take up to 7 business days and Overnight is a one business day in transit service. What works well for some customers will not always work well for others. If it is during the hot summer months or cold winter months we recommend not using USPS Ground Advantage because it is the slowest option and increases the risk of receiving your insects DOA. Make sure to check the weather, carefully taking into account transit time and places that your package will travel through. Also important to consider is the price between the shipping methods: USPS Ground Advantage is the cheapest, Overnight is the most expensive with many options in between depending on the season. We try to provide as much information as possible but it is ultimately up to the customer to make the best choice based on weather and the quality of delivery services available to your area.

    Mealworms

Posted by Deborah Cottrell on Mar 8th 2020

My animal hospital needs a dependable source of mealworms for all the exotic species we treat and for our resident insectivorous bats (non-releasable injuries). We've tried many companies over the years, and Fluker's has furnished by far the most dependable service and highest quality mealworms. I highly recommend them.

    Mealworms

Posted by Kristen Hamel on Jan 12th 2020

The live worms come regularly every two weeks and are always in great condition. I can refrigerate the box for up to a week, then empty the worms into a large bowl with instant oats, mix well, portion into containers and toss a small piece of carrot on top and set outside the fridge for 24 hours, then back in the fridge. The chickadees, cardinals and other birds enjoy them daily!

    Horrible

Posted by Frank Torres on Aug 15th 2019

Ordered 500 "mediums" and most of them were 1/2 inch plus they all arrived dead, not even a potato to keep them alive while they get here.

    Flukers delivers

Posted by E Ward on Jul 3rd 2019

I was very happy with the quality of the mealworms that I received. They were professionally packed in a ventilated box with egg crate media. It was pretty easy to get them out without making a huge mess. Out of 1000, there were only 8 dead ones. That's amazing, considering that the temps have been in the 90's here in the south. Will definitely buy again from Flukers. I highly recommend them.

    Amazing!

Posted by Jew Jen on Jun 2nd 2019

All of my mealworms were alive except 1 dead one I found; I think that's pretty good from buying them online. My juvenile leopard gecko loves them!
