One great way to save money on feeder insects is buying in bulk. The cost per cricket can be greatly reduced when purchasing in larger quantities.
For Example: Currently you purchase 250 4week old crickets once a week at $9.50/box. That equals out to $.038/cricket plus shipping. If you were to purchase 1000 3week old crickets once a month it would equal $.015/cricket plus shipping. That is less than half the price per cricket. Plus you save the cost of shipping 3 additional orders.
Keeping larger quantities of crickets alive for 4 weeks or longer may require additional resources. To keep 1000 crickets we suggest a container at least as large as a 10 gallon glass aquarium with some egg crates or similar items for them to crawl on and spread out. You will also need to control the temperature of the enclosure to either increase the growth rate or decrease the growth rate. To speed up the growth process we suggest a temperature around 80-85F. To slow down the growth rate keep the crickets around 70F. Keeping crickets around 70F should slow the crickets from growing rapidly and provide you with a month long supply of 3-5 week old crickets. Also equally important is providing an adequate food and water source for your feeder insects. Fluker Farms has a few products to meet this need. We have our all in one food and water source called Fluker's Orange Cube. This is a complete cricket diet and no other food or water is needed. We also offer Cricket Quencher which as the name suggests, provides a safe and reliable water source. Also available for food source is Fluker's Cricket Diet. This is a specially formulated diet to keep your crickets alive and healthy and also provides gut loaded nutrition to your reptiles.
